Japan. Reaching 3 (-5) m in height here, a medium-sized tree-like shrub with decorative, deeply five-lobed leaves that are black-red until autumn. The narrow tips of the leaves are coarsely serrate and doubly serrate. The most well-known and valued form for gardens and parks. Requires a sheltered location and cultivated slightly acidic soil.
