Eastern United States. Although in its native range it occurs especially often on riverbanks, which it stabilizes with its dense and deep root system, here it also grows very well in dry places; tolerates temporary floods. This tree reaches 30 m in height in its native range, here only 12-15 (-20) m in height and 10-15 (-18) m in width and often forms typical groups of three to four trees. Autumn foliage is bright yellow. Flowers - yellow-green catkins.
