Feathery shrub

This genus includes only four very closely related species native to the southeastern part of North America. These are small deciduous shrubs with alder-like leaves that turn a magnificent yellow-red in autumn. The white flowers, which appear very early, grow in dense terminal heads and have a strong honey scent.
