Western China. Shrub reaching up to 5 m in its native range, up to 3 m in height here, upright, sparsely branched. Odd-pinnate leaves, 50-80 cm long, with 13-15 ovate leaflets, 6-14 cm long, dark green above, blue-green beneath, giving the plant a picturesque appearance. Bell-shaped, greenish-yellow flowers hang in long panicles in June; long, pod-like fruits with a bluish bloom adorn this plant in autumn. Hardiness zone 7a.
