Northeastern America. 7 (-9) m in height, a broadly upright tree-like shrub with projecting branches and thorns up to 3 cm long and large bright-red fruits that persist from August to November. Flowers white in May. A valuable plant for protection against birds. A very frost-hardy and completely disease-resistant plant for living hedges. Especially beautiful bright-red autumn coloration. Hardiness zone 5a.
