Camellia

Back to catalogue

The beautiful camellia was introduced to Europe from China and Japan in the eighteenth century. Probably the oldest living European specimen grows at Pillnitz Castle near Dresden; it is about 200 years old, approximately 20 m in height and more than 12 m in diameter. Camellias prefer a well-drained, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter and generally grow best in partial shade.
