Common barberry (from Latin Berberis vulgaris) – the most widespread species, which is used for creating «living hedges» and for preparing medicinal remedies. The shrub blooms in late spring towards summer. The flowers have a pleasant fragrance, yellow-orange in color, pollinated by bees. The honey of common barberry is highly valued for its unique aroma and delicate taste.

Thunberg's barberry (from Latin Berberis thunbergii) – native to Japan and China, valued for its unique decorative qualities. It is used to stabilize slopes, create picturesque borders and impenetrable «living hedges».

Amur barberry (from Latin Berberis amurensis) – grows in the European part of Russia, native to the Ussuri taiga. This plant is widely used in landscape design and pharmacology. It is used for peptic ulcer disease of the duodenum and stomach, chronic diseases of the gallbladder and liver, tuberculosis and inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. It cures asthma, diarrhea and dysentery.
