White dogwood Sibirica - a deciduous shrub; when young it grows strictly upright, later becoming oval and loose, with the lower branches lying on the ground.
Size: reaches a height and crown diameter of up to 3 m.
Flowering: in May–June. Often flowers again in autumn. Flowers are yellow-white, gathered in corymb-like inflorescences 3–5 cm across.
Leaves dark green on the upper side, light green beneath. Autumn color ranges from yellow to orange-red.
Soil: undemanding, tolerates dry sites but prefers moist soils; tolerates lime.
Light: shade-tolerant.
Plant features: frost-hardy, has a wide range of uses. After heavy pruning red shoots regrow; in moist soils it can spread vigorously. Fruits are inedible. Used in single plantings, groups, and hedgerows.
