Ailanthus altissima

China. A fast-growing park tree up to 25 m in height, with a broad crown, spreading branches and magnificent pinnate leaves 50-60 cm long. Flowers greenish, in panicles 10-20 cm long, from June to July; later, abundant reddish fruits. Resistant to industrial pollution. Grows excellently on loose, dry sandy soil or on dry limestone rubble. Winter hardiness zone 6b.
