(From Latin succulentus — succulent, fleshy) — a group of species of perennial xerophytic plants adapted to existence in arid conditions thanks to the ability to store water in a highly developed specialized tissue — water-storing parenchyma (up to 2–3 tons!) and having a number of morphological and physiological adaptations for its economical use during dry periods.
